1.0 CONCEPT AND FOCUS FOR DELTA STATE VISION 2020

1.1 INTRODUCTION

Delta State is one of the 36 states of Nigeria with a population of about 4 million, growing at about 3% per annum. The State is blessed with enormous human and economic resources, fertile soils, rich forests, rivers and sea shores with abundant supply of fish and other aquatic products as well as various minerals, particularly oil and gas, for which the state accounts for about 30% of the nations output. Other significant minerals found in the state are kaolin, clay and silica.

 

  1.2   Since his inauguration on May 29, 2007, His Excellency, the Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan, has been implementing a 3-point Agenda for the short and medium term development of the State. The Agenda consists of the following key elements, namely:

  1. Peace and Security
  2. Human Capital Development, and
  3. Infrastructure Development

The Administration has recorded several milestones in the implementation of the 3-Point Agenda. Below are some of the notable achievements:
